I jump off a bridge
Well, jump is a rather generous word. I think, an awkward, tenuous fall is a better description.
I’m slightly afraid of heights, so doing things like bungee jumping or rock climbing are always a bit scary for me. However, I’ve been bungee jumping before and I thought it would be no problem this time. I did NOT realize, that I would be the only jumper. Meaning, I didn’t get to see someone else jump first. I didn’t get to see the system tested. I certainly didn’t want to be the first one!
After 5 minutes of looking down. Another couple of minutes contemplating failure on the ledge. And a few harrowing seconds. I ‘jumped’.
Upon review of the tape I notice a couple of things.
- My terrified scream. I wish I could have made a sound that did not reek of fear. Or, at least the Wilhelm scream!
- The guide, clearly trips me! Probably punishment for taking so long.
- A few whistles from onlookers. To be honest, I probably would not have jumped. But, my dillydallying attracted a bit of an audience. And, I started receiving encouraging cheers from the people. It was just the boost I needed.
- My pants seem to have shrunk several inches in the last round of laundry. This is troubling, since I only have the one pair.
The lesson for me is: Find people in life to cheer you on. To push you along and expand your boundaries. So, to all the people in life that are cheering me on and giving me a boost…Thank you 🙂

The authentic terror in your scream followed by the “WOOHOO” 15 seconds later is incredible. +1 cheerleaders. Hot ones too.
